Long Island CORE members, Queens CORE members
Description
This is a 1964 photo of Moe Tandler (left, glasses), lawyer for both Long Island and Queens CORE, standing next to Queens CORE chairman Dr. George Kaufman (right). Originally the lawyer for Long Island CORE, he also became counsel to Queens CORE with his law partner, Morton Freedman, because of their friendship with Dr. George Kaufman, their neighbor in St. Albans.
Active in the NAACP in Jamaica since 1949, Tandler was still working for Long Island CORE after it went Black Power. He represented several Queens CORE people arrested during the Rochdale Village and World’s Fair demonstrations.
