Subject

Brooklyn CORE

Description

This is a photo of Brooklyn CORE chairman Sam Pinn (right, dark suit, glasses) with Jitu Weusi (middle left, dashiki, glasses). To his left is former city councilman Al Vann (white suit) who with Weusi was one of the co-founders of the Afro-American Teachers association on the mid 1960's. To Weusi's right is Rev. Herbert Daughtry (minister's collar, flower in lapel), pastor of the House of the Lord's Church. They are the founders of the National Black United Front, a "broad-based organization which includes all social, political & religious sections of the Black community ". *

Pinn had made Weusi an honorary chairman of Brooklyn CORE.
At the time, Weusi had his own organization, the EAST, which in
many ways had its origins with Brooklyn CORE. The groups worked together on several campaigns throughout the 1970's.
