Description

This is a May 5, 1964 photo of Queens College CORE chairmen Mike Wenger (right) and Stan Shaw (center). In the photo, they are receiving the Human Relation Award from B'nai Brith, the oldest Jewish service organization in the world.
Queens College CORE was originally the Queens College chapter of the NAACP. Shaw was chairmen when the group simply switched over to a CORE chapter. Wenger was chairman after him.
Dr. Shaw (PhD) went to become a Professor Emeritus of Special Education at the University of Connecticut and a senior research scholar at the Center on Postsecondary Education and Disability.
Wenger went on to become the Deputy Director for Outreach and Program Development for President Clinton’s Initiative on Race. He also teaches in Department of Sociology at George Washington University and is a senior fellow at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies in Washington, D.C.
