1978 articles by Jack Anderson on Roy Innis ordering beatings and shootings of CORE members
Subject
Roy Innis, Jack Anderson
Description
These are two articles written by investigative journalist Jack Anderson on the internal violence going on within the Congress of Racial Equality during the 1970's. They discuss how national director Roy Innis ordered several members of CORE to be assaulted (including Ray Cunnigham of L.A. CORE) and others to be shot including CORE leaders Waverly Yates and Jimmy Howard. The terms "hit" and "shoot" are used ambiguously in these articles. However, in another article published by the Amsterdam News ("As Primary Day Draws Near Owens-Innis Battle Rages", Sep. 6, 1986) Innis' bodyguard Marvin Peay, who was interviewed for these Post articles, clearly stated that "Innis ordered him to kill his political rival Waverly Yates...".
