Title
1961 arrest photo for Morty Slater, CCNY CORE, as Freedom Rider
Description
This is the arrest photo for CCNY CORE member Morton Slater as a Freedom Rider. He also participated in the Route 40 Freedom Rides.
from Eric Etheridge's 'Breach Of Peace':
"In the first offenders camp at Parchman, I found myself next to an unusal freedom rider. I think his name was Morty.
He was not through CORE. He was a little guy who decided on his own to come down and join the Freedom Rides but he didn’t qiuite know how.
So he came to Jackson, got a library card, took an awful lot of library books and shipped them back to his home in Brooklyn because he thought Jackson should be punished.
Then he just hung around the bus station until our group showed up and he came and sat down with us and got arrested. "
