He is talking with Suffolk District Court Judge Floyd Sarisohn (White). The two tried to create an experimental program to help ‘indigent defendants who are jailed because they can’t afford bail’. The judge stated in the press that starting the next day he would ‘release indigent Negro and Puerto Rican defendants without bail if CORE’ guaranteed they would return to court. Instead, he was ordered off the bench by his superior in a move seen as unprecedented in LI history.
