A World War II Navy veteran, he and his wife, Delores, originally moved from the projects in Harlem to North Amityville, Long Island in 1961. She was the first chairman of Suffolk County CORE in 1963. He became chair in 1967 and remained chair all the way into the 1980’s when he was made a member of CORE’s board of directors. He was also vice president of 100 Black Men of Nassau-Suffolk, Inc. and the head of Nassau-Suffolk Minority Coalition. He ran unsuccessfully for the New York State Assembly and for positions on the Amityville school board and the Babylon Town Board. Quintyne worked as a field representative for the Equal Opportunity Office and the Suffolk Human Rights Commission.
