  Besides being active in the Women's Strike for Peace, Witherspoon was also involved in the New York City Commission on Human Rights and its â€˜testing for housing discriminationâ€™.  According to her daughter, â€˜the apartment that we moved intoâ€¦ was through the courts because they had tried to discriminate and we wonâ€™. &#13;

  As chapter chairman, Witherspoon led fund raising efforts to support the Louisiana and Mississippi volunteers, was involved in the March on Washington and COREâ€™s boycott of Schaefer Beer and Greyhound Bus. &#13;
