<text>This is a photo of 7 Arts CORE member Yuri Kochiyama (left page, glasses, black dress) cradling the head of Malcolm X just after he had been assassinated at the Audubon Ballroom on February 21, 1965.

The photo speaks to just how involved Kochiyama was in the Black freedom movement and how she was also a member of the minister's organization, the Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU).

The photo also speaks to the fact that there were members of CORE in New York that were also members of the OAAU, such as Calvin Cobb of Suffolk County CORE, Omar Abu Ahmed and Pat Walker of East River CORE, Ralph Poynter of Harlem CORE and Herman Ferguson of South Jamaica CORE. It also speaks to a closeness between CORE and Malcolm X. As I have noted previously, I assume for several reasons that he was closer to CORE than any of the other civil rights organizations.</text>
