The photo was taken at the 2nd Black Power Conference in Newark, New Jersey. Both are former associates of Malcolm X who went on to start their own organizations. Kenyatta was a member of X's Muslim Mosque Inc. and the founder of the Harlem Mau Mau. Ferguson was a member of X's Organization of Afro-American Unity and the founder of the Black Brotherhood Improvement Association.
