<text>This is an interview of New York CORE chairman, Gladys Harrington, the first chairman of the Harlem chapter. It is from a 1963 CBS News special 'The Harlem Temper'.

One of the negative criticisms of Harrington's tenure was the chapter did not do much in Harlem. Most of their earliest members were non-Harlemites and most of their earliest campaigns took place outside of Harlem.

However, what isn't included in any of the documents on the chapter was her direct mentoring of several young Black men in New York CORE who became local leaders in Harlem and throughout the larger movement, among them Leonard DeChamps and Tony Spencer. This information was only discovered through oral history interviews.
